Airline pilots are on their way to becoming the most lucrative jobs in the FedEx pilot fleet.
That’s according to data compiled by the National Pilot Council, an industry association.
In 2017, the top three-year paychecks for pilots with a minimum of 12 years experience in the fleet ranged from $104,000 to $166,000, the report found.
The highest-paid pilot was an air traffic controller who made $174,000.
Air traffic controllers make up more than 80% of the 1,800 pilots who fly FedEx planes each day.
The top-paid pilots also earn about $35,000 more than the next-highest paid pilot.
And the average wage for a pilot is $89,000 in 2018.
But pilots aren’t the only ones who earn money.
The FAA is considering requiring new pilots to complete training and pass a criminal background check.
Federal law requires that new pilots take a criminal history and drug test before they can be hired.
But the FAA has been reluctant to enact such a requirement, saying that such an initiative would unfairly target minorities and that such requirements are not needed.
