There are now more than a dozen commercial pilots forums on the internet, some for small businesses and others for the public.
And many of them have been active for decades.
“A lot of the people that are on the forums are people who have flown before, have flown their first commercial aircraft, who have done it for a number of years,” said John Pohlman, owner of the Pilot Cafe ifr.
“A lot people just come in and want to know what they’re doing.”
Pohlman runs a pilot forums for pilots who are looking for a place to meet and chat with other commercial pilots.
He says many of the pilots on the forum are first time pilots, and they are looking to start a career.
The pilot forums on sites like Pilotron.com and Pilotracing.com are a mix of public forums, private and commercial forums, Pohlmans told FoxNews.com.
“It’s basically a marketplace for pilot skills and pilots, so that they can get trained for the job that they want to do, which is flying a commercial aircraft,” he said.
“People are looking, and people are going to get their pilot skills, and there’s a lot of interest and a lot more interest than there was before,” he added.
The sites have different rules about who can join, Puthons said.
Some require you to be at least 17 years old and to pass a medical check.
Other sites allow people to just post your photos and videos, and the pilot forums are where people will post those pictures and videos.
“The forums are kind of like a pilot recruitment board,” Pohl said.
“If you want to get in, you have to show a medical report, and if you’re looking for people that will take you to the next level, then you have a lot to think about.”
Some of the more recent forums have had success, Poth said.
He said there have been some people who came in with an interest in business and found themselves flying a small aircraft.
“I mean, it’s been a little bit like a dream come true for a lot people,” Poth explained.
Pohl said he has seen a resurgence in interest among commercial pilots recently.
He’s seen the interest grow so much that he started a pilot forum about it.
“We’ve got to keep it up, we have to keep the forums going,” he stressed.
Poth said he’s hopeful that commercial pilots will see the need for the pilot forum as they have in the past.
“What I’m hoping is that more people will look at these forums, and maybe they’ll start to look at them more,” he concluded.
